Microsoft now has ISO files available to download for the new 9879 build of the Windows 10 Technical Preview for Enterprise, allowing anyone to install the enterprise SKU of Windows 10 without having to go though the operating system's own automatic update program.

As a workaround, you can download the ISO of your build of Win10 Tech Preview (9879 link) and mount to a drive letter, then use the/Source flag of DISM to use the WIM file on the ISO. This is also a useful trick if you need to useRestoreHealth in offline situations.

Note that this release of Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 10 Technical Preview does not run on Windows 10 Technical Preview builds that are newer (higher-numbered) than build 9879. This download cannot yet be installed on the January 21, 2015 release of Windows 10 Technical Preview.

UPDATE 11/24: Today we have published Build 9879 to the Slow ring and made the ISO images available for download via the Windows Insider Program website. We have also released a hotfix package to Windows Update to address a few issues seen in this build.

If you're horsing around with Windows 10, perhaps the original WindowsTechnicalPreview-x64-EN-US.iso version, or even the more recent build 9860, you'll notice that checking for the latest build can result in a huge download to get to Build 9879. Longer still for it to perform the upgrade, which is more extensive than your normal Windows Update.

More interesting is Windows 10's support for the Matroska video file format (.MKV files), which is notable for being the favored format for videos posted to file sharing networks and illicit download sites. Redmond snuck preliminary MKV support into Build 9860, but in Build 9879 the files can be played by Windows Media Player and other apps and the OS will even generate thumbnail images for them. Support for the H.265 HEVC codec has also been added, and Microsoft says there's more to come on the A/V front.
